Challenge
SWISS has been working with STL GmbH since 2023. With the go-live of cimoio in Q4 2023, operational use began. The goal was to introduce a scalable platform for the structured management of qualification-relevant training processes while taking regulatory requirements into account.
As an aviation company, SWISS is subject to strict regulatory requirements in the area of training and qualification. Especially in the technical and operational environment, qualifications must be planned, kept valid, and documented in a traceable manner for inspections.
The training courses are conducted in different formats, including classroom training, online training, and blended learning concepts. A solution was sought that could systematically map these requirements and meaningfully complement the existing IT systems.
Key requirements included consistent qualification management with validity periods, reminder and escalation mechanisms, as well as audit-proof documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
Additional requirements included automated certificate logic with a unique document ID, the scheduling of trainers, and integration with the HR system.
Solution
The implementation of cimoio was carried out step by step. First, a central technical client was put into productive use. On this base, STL developed a template as the foundation for additional clients, which can be adapted as needed. This approach enables scalability while maintaining organizational separation.
To map training and qualification requirements in the technical-operational environment, SWISS uses cimoio as its central learning and qualification management system. The focus includes the regulatorily relevant qualifications of non-flying personnel in the operations area, as well as complete, audit-ready, and audit-proof documentation for regulatory inspections.
cimoio follows a consistent qualification model. That systematically links person-related qualifications, their validity periods, and the associated chain of evidence for audit-proof documentation.
At the time of transition into operational use, SWISS was already using cimoio across more than 10 organizationally separate clients. As part of ongoing projects, an expansion of the client model is foreseeable. The system logic also forms the basis for a later expansion toward formal evidence-based training throughout the entire OPS environment.
Result and added value
The processes mapped in cimoio have passed the regulatory inspections of the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation. SWISS therefore has a robust and future-proof solution for managing qualification-relevant training processes.
In particular, the interaction between qualification overview, validity management, and audit preparation helps reduce manual coordination effort and prepare inspections efficiently.
